TrialNet Makes A Pledge To Telework ...

When TrialNet was formed back in 1996, we found it very difficult to get out of the habit of printing out documents for review, or photocopying documents so that others in the office could have their own individual copy.  Over time we realized that we had several copies of the same document in the file unnecessarily.  Because we didn't want to end up with massive numbers of file cabinets filled with paper, we decided that all documents were to be received electronically and that only pertinent documents were to be printed or photocopied.

Since year 2000, TrialNet has been 95% paperless due to our changing attitudes about having a hardcopy of every document, the increased security of and our heightened confidence in electronic storage options and technology back up solutions.

So one would not be surprised that TrialNet would participate in the State of Virginia's pledge to "go green" by helping reduce the energy of commuting.

On June 10, 2009, Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine issued an Executive Order to "green" Virginia - calling for reductions in energy consumption and efficiency in state government operations as well as creating a statewide Telework Day to save the energy of commuting.

Teleworking supports the reduction of traffic, greenhouse gas emissions, and the wear and tear on public transportation.  The State of Virginia is encouraging all organizations to work from home, or a remote location, on Monday, August 3, 2009.

This pledge was an easy decision for TrialNet, as all of our employees already have the ability to work remotely, and a significant number of our staff currently do so as needed.  Our support staff can still answer incoming calls as well as respond to emails and customer support requests.  So, while TrialNet will be working remotely on August 3, the day-to-day normal business operations will be conducted as usual and will not affect our users.

There are experts who say we are destroying our planet, and then there are experts who say that there are not enough greenhouse gas emissions to harm anyone and therefore all the political hype about the dire need to reduce our greenhouse emissions is false.  However, whether you are a believer of this or not, I think we all can agree on one thing - we, as a nation, are very wasteful in many aspects of our lives.  If anything, making an effort to be less wasteful cannot be harmful in any way and can only better our lives and that of our children - the future leaders of our country.

TrialNet Implements A Recycling Program ...

TrialNet moved into its new offices, a "recycled" warehouse in the up-and-coming Manchester warehouse district, in year 2007.  Since being at the new location, we had not yet implemented a recycling program until this month.  Crystal Chandler, one of our support staff, has undertaken the effort to assist TrialNet employees with recycling.  She is graciously referred to as our ÔRecycling Coordinator' and has placed marked bins throughout the office to streamline the recycle process and advise employees of the proper items to recycle, and the proper way to recycle.

Many of us were already recycling at home, so being able to do this at the office made us feel better about our part in further helping reduce waste.  Those who were not recycling now see how easy the process is and have undertaken their own initiative to do their part in helping the environment.  As Crystal quoted "one aluminum can saves enough electricity to power a 100-watt light bulb for three hours and your TV for three hours."

Let us know what you are doing at your offices to go green by responding to this email with your "going green initiatives."  We will post this newsletter with your responses on our public web page along with a link to your company web site.
